On April 1, 2025, the annual exchange meeting of the National Natural
Science Foundation of China Excellent Research Group Project (formerly the Basic
Science Center Project) on the etiology basis and precise prevention of common
chronic diseases was held in Beijing. Academician Qiao Jie, Director of the
Medical Science Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China,
attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
This excellent research group project was approved in September 2023,
jointly undertaken by Nanjing Medical University, Peking University, and the
Institute of Environment and Health Related Product Safety of the Chinese Center
for Disease Control and Prevention. The project focuses on the key scientific
issue of "etiology basis and precise prevention of common chronic diseases",
bringing together the national human biological monitoring queue, China's
prospective research on chronic diseases, and multiple tumor screening queues to
conduct queue based biomics research. The aim is to analyze the key
environmental causes and genetic environmental interaction mechanisms of common
chronic diseases in China, identify new biomarkers for risk assessment and early
diagnosis, establish new methods for intervention and precise screening of
high-risk populations, and provide scientific basis for improving the level of
primary and secondary prevention of common chronic diseases in China.
Director Qiao Jie pointed out at the exchange meeting that this project is
the first outstanding research group project in China that focuses on precise
prevention of chronic diseases based on a large population cohort. In future
work, the project should continue to strengthen cooperation and communication
among teams, attract and gather outstanding talents from different disciplines,
promote resource sharing through systematic organizational forms, and drive the
overall development of chronic disease prevention and control research in China.
Taking this opportunity for communication, we also hope that the attending
experts can provide valuable opinions and suggestions to better promote the
smooth implementation of the project and advance research, development, and
innovation in the field of chronic disease prevention.
The project leader and project backbone respectively reported on the
progress of work in 2024 and the next stage of work plan, and exchanged and
discussed with the expert group. The expert group affirmed the progress and
achievements made since the implementation of the project, and put forward
constructive opinions on innovative intervention measures and mechanisms for
precise prevention.
Members of the project team, heads of departments related to environmental
and health-related product safety at Nanjing Medical University, Peking
University, and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Deputy
Director Hong Wei of the Medical Science Department of the Natural Science
Foundation of China, and relevant staff attended the meeting.
